Status Update

I thought I would give you a quick update on where I am with my writing. First, I am now querying agents for Novel One. So far I have had one rejection and one request for a full (i.e., full manuscript). I’m okay with the former, and really excited about the latter. Even if the agent with the full ends up deciding to reject, it’s such an encouragement to have an agent take that much interest.

As anyone who has queried agents knows, this process of querying and waiting for a response can take a while. Some agents like to respond within a few weeks, most take a month to six weeks. Yes, that’s frustrating for the writer anxiously checking his e-mail every thirty seconds, but it’s also understandable. Reading queries and new author manuscripts is only a fraction of the work an agent does, and agents often do these things after office hours (according to what I’ve read). So, accounting for all the work they do for their existing clients, and permitting them to have a life, I have no problem cutting my selected agents some slack when it comes to getting back to me. And I’m sure they’re glad to hear that. 🙂

In the meantime, I am working on Novel Two. I had started this as a third person POV, but I’ve decided to start over and write it from the first person. First person POV is really popular for Young Adult, but that’s not why I’m doing it. For this particular novel, it feels right. And though it means I have to write as if I’m a sixteen-year-old girl–it works for the story!
