Writing Status Update
It’s been a few weeks since I last posted on the progress of my projects. So, here goes:
The Novel: If you’ve clicked on the tab above, you’ll know this is called ALEXANDRA, and it is the Contemporary YA novel for which I’m currently trying to find an agent (if you click “The Novel” you can read my query letter). So far I’ve had some rejections, and I have yet to hear back from a number of agents. I’m not reading anything into how long it takes for an agent to respond. Some say if it’s taking a long time it means they’re considering it, others say it means they’re not interested and they may or may not send you a form rejection. Really–who knows? Perhaps the agent in question never got the query. Or perhaps I queried them right before they went on vacation for a week or two. There are a million-and-one reasons why an agent may respond quickly or slowly. At the end of the day, my guessing won’t change the outcome, so I’ll just let it be whatever it is. And while I wait, I will work on my blog, and on…
The WIP: The Work In Progress. Should I tell you about this? Perhaps…? Maybe just a tantalizing morsel of information about the novel I’m working on at the moment. It’s tentatively called A TEENAGE ALIEN IN VICTORIAN LONDON. And it’s about… you guessed it! Pearl Kztaterin, a 16-year-old alien girl, in a fit of wanderlust borrows a time-space travel device and visits London. She intends to visit Earth in 1978 to see all the cool fashions and maybe catch a live punk band. Instead she miskeys the controller and ends up in London… in 1879. She needs to recharge the device to get home–but Edison’s only just invented the incandescent lightbulb! The chances of finding a suitable power supply are slim. How will she survive life in Victorian London until either she finds a way home, or home comes looking for her? Sounds like fun? I think so.
I have other ideas too, but they are nowhere near to the point where I’ll share them. Sorry! Maybe some other time. For now, back to work!
Ooo, you WIP sounds awesome. I want to read it right now, seriously.
Good luck on querying! My goal is to query next year. I can only imagine the frustration that comes from waiting.
Thanks, Kris! Naturally, I love my WIP. It’s very different from the novel I’m querying, and that’s okay with me. I loved the idea, so I just went with it. And yes, the waiting is frustrating, but that’s part of the biz. I just need to quit checking my e-mail every 30 seconds and get on with life. š
Thanks for commenting, and all the best to you with your work!
