RTW: Writing Superpowers
This week’s Road Trip Wednesday question over at YA Highway (see there for an explanation) is: What are your writing and publishing superpowers (drafting? beta-reading? writing queries? plotting? character creation? etc.) — and what’s your kryptonite?
What part of the writing/publishing process do I think I’m best at? Hmmm… I’m not really sure. I’m pretty good at proof-reading, so while I’ve not been ask to be a beta reader for someone (yet), I’d probably do quite well at that. I don’t think I’m too bad at the actual process of getting the story down on paper. However, my kryptonite is probably a good book, or my family–those are the things most likely to draw me away from writing. But like kryptonite, these are not in themselves bad things. Just as kryptonite is part of Superman’s home, and hence something precious to him, so reading and family are to me. But they can also be a distraction from writing, and I need to be careful of that if I want my writing to progress. Balance is the key!
My brothers are here, and we’re already having a great time… and in light of that, I’ll sign off for now. Happy Wednesday!
Your kryptonite sounds pretty nice, actually 🙂 Books and family are so very precious, how can you not take some time away from writing to enjoy time with them???
Oh, you’re a good beta-reader? *makes note about it*
And I agree with Sara. It’s not bad at all … Like you said, they are home and a necessary part of our lives 😉
I have similar kryptonite issues, though like you, I’d hardly call them a problem. The reading one is probably a superpower too because I think to be a good writer you should also be an avid reader. Just my opinion 🙂
Getting distracted isn’t a bad kryptonite to have. If you aren’t experiencing things and living your life you wont have anything to write about.
That’s the best kind of kryptonite to have!
Have a great time with your family 🙂
Your kryptonite certainly could be worse. Books and family are pretty pleasant. They are also great sources of inspiration and of fun. As you said: “Balance is the key!”
