Saturday Links
First, a shout out to my SecondBorn, Rebekah, who drew the “Links” picture above. Rebekah loves all things Asian, and has a particular love for the Japanese. She loves Nintendo (particularly Zelda–she’s working her way through Skyward Sword at the moment), manga and anime (Detective Conan, Naruto, Sailor Moon, and many others), the Japanese language (which she is teaching herself) and Japanese people and culture. She also loves to draw. I encourage you to check out her DeviantArt page to see more of her work.
Now to some links I came across (or that were brought to my attention) this week that I want to share with you:
- Author Roni Loren shared her thoughts on writing synopses back in August. Don’t be deceived–once you get a book deal, that doesn’t mean the end of having to write synopses! This is worth reading for the help and tips she offers.
- Sarah Enni (Sarah’s blog is here) put me on to The 13 Days of Who–a Doctor Who themed blog hop being hosted by Erica O’Rourke and Eliza Evans. I get a kick reading articles from new (and young) Who fans with such a passion and enthusiasm for the show. If you’re already a fan, go read them. If you’re not sure whether Doctor Who is your thing, go read these posts and feel the love! π
- Literary Agent Rachelle Gardner had a couple of interesting posts this week. This one discussed the age-old question of writing from the heart vs. writing to the market, and whether it’s really an either-or thing. This other article was a guest post by Chuck Sambuchino, author of Guide to Literary Agents, on the subject of book publicity. Authors are often surprised at how much publicity they are expected to do for their novels. Chuck shares five truths about book publicity that will hopefully help you better publicize (and sell) your book.
- Literary Agent Janet Reid posted a link to Chuck Wendig’s “25 Truths about Rejection.” If you’re a writer going through agent rejection, you might find some solace (or at least some chuckles) there.
- On my blog, I celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary, and my oldest daughter’s 18th birthday!
That’s all for now. Have a great Saturday!
Wow, your daughter’s drawings are amazing! I’m jealous lol
Great links! Already have most of them bookmarked.
And congrats (again!) on your anniversary!
Have a great weekend π
Thanks, Juliana! π
Those anime-esque drawings are fantastic! Your Second Born is quite talented. π I’ve never gotten into Dr. Who, but I suppose it’s about time that I did. Can’t have too many addictions, I always say.
And Doctor Who is a great addiction to have. Just thirteen episodes a year (fourteen if you count the Christmas Special)… though you have 6 seasons to catch up on now… plus all the Classic stories, but there are only 160 of those. But it’s worth it. π
Wow! Your daughter’s art is amazing!!!
I’m a new follower from the DejaVu blogfest. Nice to meet you. π
Nice to meet you too, Margo! Thanks for following. π
On behalf of Rebekah (SecondBorn, who would sooner hug her younger brother than be caught commenting on her dad’s blog), I just want to say thank you to everyone for your kind comments about her artwork. I’m the proud dad, so she sort of expects me to be impressed with her work. It means a lot more to her for people she doesn’t know to say these things. You’re the best! π
She’s amazing. π x
thanks for the excellent links! And I checked out your daughter’s deviantart page–she is clearly quite talented!
… hug brother vs. comment on blog…… well we can see which one won… and the picture isn’t THAT great… it ONLY took 5 hrs… my real art takes like….. 12-24 hrs…
Thanks for the link love! π Glad you found the post helpful.
And happy wedding anniversary!
