The Lucky 7 Meme

Last week, Bailey Hammond tagged me on the Lucky 7 Meme. What’s that? It’s a meme that’s going around. What’s a meme? According to The Free Dictionary, it’s “A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.” Okay, so what’s the Lucky 7 Meme? The idea of the Lucky 7 Meme is to get each person that receives the meme to share some of their WIP–i.e., the novel they are currently working on. It’s a Lucky 7 meme, because each person is supposed to go to page 77 of their WIP, jump down to line 7, copy the next 7 lines, and paste them into a blog to share with the world. Sounds kind of a cool fun random thing to do. Thanks Bailey for tagging me. Here’s where you can find Bailey’s blog:

Now to my seven lines. BUT… my WIP is going through a bit of an re-think. So, I’m going to share with you 7 lines from page 77 of the novel I’m currently shopping to agents. If you want an idea what it’s about, you can read my query letter on The Novel tab above. Here they are:

He had read about musicians making pacts with the devil, signing their souls away so they can be the best rock guitarists. Had Alexandra sold her soul for mental prowess? He watched as she approached the table and sat upright as she took her seat again.

“Tell you what, anxious Michael,” Alexandra said, taking a packet of cigarettes from her bag. “We’ll play a little game.” She pulled a cigarette out of the packet, lit it with a lighter she had in her jacket pocket, and drew deeply from it.

Intrigued? I could have given you some context… but that would take away some of the fun of the meme. Now I have to pick 7 people to pass this on to:

Theresa Paolo

Mrs. S.

Julie Maughon

Miss Cole

Kirsten Lopresti

Kamille Elahi

Crystal Schubert

If you’ve already done this, you can just post a link to the relevant blog article in the comments. Thanks! I hope you have a great Monday. And don’t forget my Birthday Giveaway! See the “Giveaway” tab for details.

Thanks, Colin! I’m seriously curious about 1) her mental prowess and 2) the game. This is a fun meme!

And that’s the fun of this meme… I *could* just explain it all… but this way, should this ever get published, hopefully you’ll buy the book–if only to turn to page 77 and find out what was going on! 😀

  3. Hmm, how interesting. I like the sound of this. Selling souls for brains. I’m not sure I’ve ever read anything like it before. I like it! 🙂

    • cds says:

You know, there might be a zombie story in there. A group of zombie merchants trading souls for brains… I’m sure someone could do something with that. 🙂

  4. Jaime says:

Sounds good, Colin. And yes, I am intrigued, especially with the whole Faust-like ‘selling of souls’ for one thing or another 🙂

  5. Miss Cole says:

Ooooooooooooooooooooooh I like that! Robert Johnson made a deal, right? 😉

    Link to mine!

  6. Interesting excerpt! Sounds like something I’d like to read. Off to look up my page 77. Thanks for the tag.

Thanks, Kirsten. I hope one day you’ll be able to read it! I look forward to reading your 7 lines. Thanks for taking part. 🙂

  7. Oooh… that does sound good!

Unfortunately, my current WIP is in the midst of an upheaval–and so is my other WIP, lol. I’m heavy into revision mode right now. Everything is a little too messy to post… 🙁 I’ll have to come back to this meme once I get things together a little better!

  8. Elodie says:

I’m with Jaime on the Faustian concept 😀 -> very very intriguing, a lot of “power” in those lines and yep, I would read more!

  9. What’s the game. I want to know 🙂

    • cds says:

Bwahahaha…!! *rubs hands* I’m glad you want to know… and, as much as I’d love to tell you… just hope I get an agent and a publisher for this. Then you’ll be able to find out. 😀
