Today is wifey’s birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY WIFEY!! She is, of course, a year older than she was last year… hence the title of this post. Yeah, I know, not particularly flattering… but I wanted to acknowledge her birthday, and it’s the most appropriate “O” word I could think of.

As a matter of privacy, I don’t like to share much about my family, but let me tell you a few things about my wife. First, she is the mother of all six of our children (which is where they get their looks and their brains–they get confused accents from me), and she homeschools them, which is not easy as you can imagine. She is also an amazing cook, often having to come up with tasty food for picky eaters and a vegetarian husband. She also does a lot of the hospitality coordinating and cooking for church functions, and as a result, her food has become legendary. When there’s a covered dish coming up, people will want to know what she’s bringing. She also enjoys quilting and has made a few quilts that she’s given away to family members–most recently she made one for our oldest daughter. She will tell you she’s not the best quilter in the world, and she’s slow, but to be fair, she has a lot on her plate and doesn’t get the time to practice much. Nevertheless, I think her quilts are superb.

No less of a feat for this wonderful woman is the fact that she has been married to me for 20 years now. That has required a miraculous amount of patience, forbearance, and grace on her part. I know I’m not the easiest of people to live with. But I’m so thankful she’s around. She’s supportive of me; she’s my first reader for my fiction and always gives honest critiques. She’s my best friend, my soul mate, she makes me laugh, and I don’t know what I’d do without her.

So here’s to many many more birthdays to come, wifey! I love you!! xxx

Holy cow–she homeschools all your kids? That’s amazing. I’m awestruck–I may teach a hundred kids every day but I only have to teach them three or four different things. I hope she had a great birthday–sounds like she richly deserves to be celebrated!

She does deserve to be celebrated, Mrs. S. Homeschooling is not always easy, and I’m proud of her for sticking with it, especially since our kids span from high school (my oldest graduates this year) to kindergarten. It’s not easy, but wifey’s a trouper. πŸ™‚

  9. Another year, what a blessing. And twenty together? An inspiration for us all. Congrats πŸ™‚
