Top Ten Tuesday: Books to Film Wishlist
It’s Top Ten Tuesday time at The Broke and the Bookish. Here’s how Top Ten Tuesday works: Each week one of The Broke and the Bookish bloggers responds to a Top Ten list challenge, and invites others to join in by responding on their blogs. Each blogger can then add their name to the Linky widget on The Broke and the Bookish blog, and link back to The Broke and the Bookish site on their blog. This week’s topic is:
Top Ten Books You’d Like To See Made Into A Movie
- DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth
- THE WAR OF THE WORLDS by H.G. Wells. I know there are a couple of movie versions, but I’m not aware of one that’s faithful to the story, setting, and time of the original. That I would like to see.
- LEVIATHAN by Scott Westerfeld. I would love to see the whole series put on the big screen, but the first book will do. I think it would be better as an animated movie, perhaps Pixar-style.
- TORN by Erica O’Rourke. Again, the whole series would be great, but the first book will do.
- UGLIES by Scott Westerfeld.
- UNRAVELING by Elizabeth Norris
- THE PERICLES COMMISSION by Gary Corby
- THE EYRE AFFAIR by Jasper Fforde
- THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern. I might have heard rumblings about this being turned into a movie. It’s possible that it’s been optioned, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.
- A STUDY IN SCARLET by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I would have loved to have seen this made into a movie (even just a TV movie) starring Jeremy Brett as Holmes. just like the rest of the series of Holmes adaptations he did. Unfortunately, since Brett is no longer with us, this could never be. But it would have been great.
If any of these books have been made into a movie, or there are confirmed plans to make one of these into a movie, please let me know! Are there any books you would like to see made into a movie?
Ooh, I just finished reading TORN yesterday and I can definitely see it as a movie – good choice! As for THE NIGHT CIRCUS (one of my absolute favorites), a movie is already in the works (Summit has hired Moira Buffini to do the screenplay) and scheduled for release next year!
Thanks AK. I thought I had heard something about a NIGHT CIRCUS movie, but I wasn’t sure. Cool!
I just saw on someone else’s list that the Uglies series is going to be made a movie – which is interesting to me! I’m mostly eager to see what they’ll do with the settings, as the World of Uglies is what makes it most unique to me. In particular, I’m excited to see what they do to create The Smoke!
And I feel like I”ve been hearing that Unraveling was in negotiations or was optioned…or something? Maybe not, it might just have been people wanting it – in any case, I haven’t read it yet but I hear it is phenomenal!
Also, if they can make a movie Night Circus as beautiful as the cover of the book, I’d definitely be into that.
My Top Ten
It would be interesting to see what they would do with the settings in UGLIES. It would be a great movie. And I wouldn’t be surprised if UNRAVELING has been optioned, but I don’t know of any definite plans. I read an ARC of the book, and it is really good. I highly recommend it. If you’re interested, I reviewed it on this blog a month or so ago. Search for “unraveling” and you’ll find it.
I’d love to see Divergent too made into a movie too – done right, it would definitely be action packed.
It would be a great move–one to rival The Hunger Games, dare I say!
I’d be very surprised if these books have not been suggested to movie makers. Great choices.
Here’s my
Top Ten Books I’d Like to See Made into Movies. I’d love to have you stop by!
It’s possible some have and I just haven’t heard about it, Deb. I will check out your list as soon as I can.
The Night Circus <- YES. THIS. I could see someone like Tim Burton directing it, but he might be too obvious of a choice. Darren Aronofsky perhaps?
How fun! I think I’ll make my own list if I have time later today. š
RE: “A Study in Scarlet”… Have you seen the recent BBC reimagining of “Sherlock”? The first episode was “A Study in Pink”. They make episode directly taken from the original stories but with a small twist. My hubby and I agree that it is an excellent series! (I blogged about it a while ago. :P)
Here is the IMDb link to that programme: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1665071/
I love the new Sherlock, and it’s the best modern re-imagining of it (even better than the movies, IMO). But I would love to see a version of A STUDY IN SCARLET set in the original novel period. With Jeremy Brett as Holmes… which makes it kinda impossible, but I can dream. š
Can I cheat and Say The Saga of Darren Shan? I know it was made into a film but they really messed it up and changed characters and plots. While everyone was squealing over Harry Potter and Twilight I was ready to have my fangirl moment over the Cirque Du Freak adaptation. Major disappointment.
Other books I’d love to see as a film would be The Duff by Kody Keplinger and Cinder by Marissa Meyer. Especially the latter. I would love to see what they’d do with the setting and making Cinder look cyborg.
A small British film company, Pendragon Pictures, did make the closest War of the Worlds to the H G Wells original. It’s available here: http://www.thewaroftheworldsmovie.net/
Unfortunately, they’d kept their project a secret and about a month or so before they were due to announce it, some bloke called Spielberg announced a big blockbuster with Tom Cruise – War of the Worlds. The Pendragon one went straight to DVD and obscurity.
Thanks for the tip, John–I’ll have to look out for that.
Definitely DIVERGENT! I’d probably agree with the others if I’d read them. š I know DIVERGENT has been optioned and all that, but no further news. I really hope it does happen, because it would make a great movie! Just picked up my copy of INSURGENT today, so I’m pretty excited about diving into it…when I get the time. Busy with all the packing and whatnot. But then, you’re not getting to it when you’d like either, so I don’t feel so bad. Hope your work trip is going well! š
Amazon said I should get INSURGENT today… at home! š I’m looking forward to reading it. The work trip’s going fine… lots of meetings, but we’ll do a bit of sight-seeing I’m sure. š
Oooh, I’d love a Divergent movie. I think the movie rights have been sold, so maybe someday!
I am lame, because I’ve only read Divergent, though Scott Westerfeld is on my list, and I recently bought The Night Circus, so hopefully that will be remedied.
Anyhow, Divergent would be a fantastic movie. Luckily, it’s been optioned, the rights sold, and last I knew, they had a director and everything. Veronica posts intermittent details on her blog about it.
