Monday Miscellaneous
This is just a quickie post (or as quickie as I can be, which is usually not very quickie, but I’ll give it a try… and look–I’m failing already!) to let you know a few things that are coming up.
First, if you’ve been following the Sunday School Notes on Tuesdays, you’ll know there wasn’t a class yesterday, so there won’t be any notes tomorrow. In fact, our Sunday School schedule is being pre-empted (for good reason) for the next couple of weeks, so my Romans class won’t be reconvening until Sunday, November 18th. That means the next Sunday School Notes will be on Tuesday, November 20th. You may recall some months ago, I floated the idea of doing more theology-type posts, looking at things like the Problem of Evil, the Trinity, and other aspects of Christian theology, in a blog-friendly fashion, to help promote understanding. Someone suggested I address how Christians view dinosaurs and Creation, especially from a “biblical inerrancy” viewpoint, and in light of what modern science teaches. A broad topic, but certainly one I’d be willing to have a go at. I thought I might do these articles in place of the Sunday School Notes while Sunday School is on a brief break. We’ll see. If you have any ideas or thoughts on this, let me know in the comments.
Second, ONLY TWO-AND-A-BIT DAYS TO NANOWRIMO!!! ARGGGHHH!!! EEEEK!!! Panic!!!! Okay, sorry… overreaction. I have been prepping, and I think I’ll be ready to go on Thursday. I’ve already got some good ideas for the story that weren’t in any previous version. I think I have a clearer sense of setting, and the plot’s getting a little firmer, although I need to spend some time over the next few days making sure I know what’s going to happen. That’s right, I’m not a pantser, and for something like this, I need a basic gameplan to keep me motivated. I’m really grateful to all the people that have “buddied” me on www.nanowrimo.org. If you’re doing NaNo this year, please feel free to add me to your “Buddy” list. I’ll buddy you back–promise!
Lastly, at the end of last week, I found out that I was one of three winners in Robin Moran’s “Blogoversary Giveaway.” Woo Hoo! Thanks, Robin! Robin’s genre of choice is Horror/Suspense (and let me just say, if you enjoy that genre, you need to check out her blog), so the choice of books was along that line. As you know, I don’t normally read horror, but I chose THE TURN OF THE SCREW by Henry James. It’s a classic, and the premise sounds interesting. Thanks again, Robin–I look forward to a good scary read.
That’s all for now. Oh, except to say THANK YOU to everyone who reads this blog. I try to keep it interesting for you, and I really appreciate your support and encouragement! And if you’re in the path of Hurricane Sandy, please be safe. You’re in my prayers.
I’m kinda sorta in NaNoPanic mode right now, but I’m still hoping to be ready for Thursday. I want to get these revisions done or as close as possible before diving into NaNo. Lately, I seem to be spending all of my time deleting too-frequent occurrences of the same words. Talk about time-consuming. Since I’m working on completing a story I’ve already started during NaNo, I’m pretty much set to go, so that’s good.
Congrats on your book win! I’ve only seen a movie version of THE TURN OF THE SCREW, starring Michelle Dockery (Mary) of Downton Abbey. Curiously, Dan Stevens (Matthew) was also in the movie, which I only just found out about a minute ago. Huh. I should probably give reading it a go sometime instead of just watching the movie. Lately, my classics challenge has kind of fallen by the wayside. Must get back on that. π
I’ve been trying to get some non-NaNo stuff done as well as prepping for my NaNo novel so I can concentrate on getting the novel written. You’d think as much waffle and runny-mouth I show on this blog (and in comments) I wouldn’t be too concerned about churning out 50K words in 30 days. But I’m not relying solely on my–um–natural verbal excess for this! π
Thanks for the congrats, Jaime. And thanks for the movie tip. I’ll have to hunt that out after I’ve finished the book–especially given the Downton actors that are in it!. π
