Final NaNoWriMo Update
Yes… I have completed my NaNoWriMo novel!! Which means, by the goal I set for myself, I have officially completed NaNoWriMo. While I passed the 50K mark a week ago, completing the novel was more important to me than the word count.
This past month has been very beneficial for me as a writer. It reminded me how much I enjoy writing, and it reminded me that this is something I can do, and do reasonably well. I wrote stuff that made me laugh, stuff that made me sigh, and a lot of stuff that will need to be fixed in the editing. More than anything, I was pleasantly surprised at how the ideas flowed while I was writing, and I was never afraid of not having something to write–especially since I had the most bare-bones of plots.
What now? I relax and enjoy December away from my NaNo project. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. A lot of editing. I need to make my MC’s voice consistent throughout–and hone that voice a little more. There are scenes that need developing, and one or two subplots I’ve hinted at that need to be written. But that’s all for later. I’m going to catch up on my reading and other things that I’ve put off, perhaps be a bit more attentive to the blog, and I’m going to enjoy Christmas.
Thank you thank you thank you to everyone that “buddied” me on the NaNoWriMo site, and to everyone who cheered me on and celebrated milestones along the way. Part of the fun of NaNoWriMo is writing in community, and that has certainly made the experience even more pleasurable.
Next year? Maybe. We’ll see.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!
NaNo helped remind me of how much I love to write too ^_^ It’s good to be writing regularly again.

“Iβm going to catch up on my reading and other things that Iβve put off, perhaps be a bit more attentive to the blog, and Iβm going to enjoy Christmas” — sounds like the perfect plan! Enjoy it. You’ve earned it!
Thank you so much, Bess! π
Colin, I am in awe! You went above and beyond in the awesome department… Congratulations!
Awww, thanks, Katy. I know I’m not alone in going above and beyond. I think the challenge of NaNo brought out the awesome in a lot of us. π
Congratulations on finishing the first draft of your novel! It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the process so much. Hope your revisions go as well.
Thanks, Erin! π
WOW! Congrats, Colin!!!! ItΒ΄s great…One month, one finished draft π
Thank you, Elodie! I know–over 12 months to come up with the idea and write a couple of useless chapters, and 1 month to do a complete re-write and finish the first draft! Isn’t NaNo amazing? π
