Books on My Radar for 2013

I haven’t said much about what fiction books I’m looking forward to this year. This is largely because whenever the question has come up recently, I’ve drawn a blank. Blame it on Christmas Cranial Confusion or New Year Neural Numbness, but when I stop and think about it, there are books coming out this year I’m looking forward to reading. So, for those that care to know, here they are:

UNRAVEL ME by Tahereh Mafi: The sequel to SHATTER ME, my favorite fiction read of 2012. I’m offering to pre-order this for the winner of my Book of the Year Giveaway. Release date: February 5th.

SCARLET: The second book in the LUNAR CHRONICLES series that started with CINDER. I really enjoyed CINDER, so definitely have this on pre-order. You probably know that CINDER is based loosely on Cinderella. SCARLET is similarly based on Little Red Riding Hood. Release date: February 5th.

SAFE FROM HARM: This is the second in Stephanie Jaye Evans’s Sugar Land Mystery series. These are cozy mysteries set in the small Texas town of Sugar Land, where local pastor Bear Wells is trying to juggle shepherding his congregation and raising his family (including his rebellious teenage daughter). But when mysterious deaths occur, they somehow seem to have a connection to Bear, and he finds himself helping the police solve them. I liked the first, FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH, and look forward to getting SAFE FROM HARM when it comes out on March 5th.

SACRED GAMES: I’m a huge fan of Gary Corby’s ATHENIAN MYSTERIES (for want of a better name) series. This is an on-going series (i.e., Gary will keep writing them for as long as his publisher will keep publishing them) set in Ancient Greece, featuring Nicolaos, a young man who, under various circumstances, finds himself investigating mysterious deaths. The first two books, THE PERICLES COMMISSION and THE IONIA SANCTION were excellent. SACRED GAMES finds Nico and his umm… accomplice Diotima at the Olympics. Release date: May 21st.

DETERGENT: Or DIVERGENT #3. As far as I know, the third and final part of the DIVERGENT trilogy has yet to be named. And, as far as I know, it has a tentative Fall 2013 release date. I’m a fan of the series, so this can’t come out soon enough!

What books are you looking forward to seeing this year? Comment, please!

These 5 look really good. I just finished Blood Land by R.S.Guthrie, I would suggest that one to someone looking for a good crime fiction book. rsguthrie.com if anyone wants to take a look. Too bad a couple of these don’t come out until later, but I have quite a list already so I will be busy until a few of these come out!

Thanks for the recommendation, Tania. I try to make my reading fairly eclectic, so I might give this one a try sometime. 🙂

I can’t wait to get my hands on Scarlet and ‘Detergent’! And some of the debuts that are out this year look incredible as well. Gonna be an exciting reading year.

I’m afraid to look at too many more books that are coming out this year… my reading lists are already bulging, and I’m still working on books from my Spring 2012 reading list! I’ll be keeping an eye on your reviews, and the reviews of others, for reading tips, though. 🙂

  3. I’m excited for Unravel Me, Scarlet, and ‘Detergent’. I’m also really looking forward to Shades of Earth by Beth Revis (come on, library!), Taken by Erin Bowman, A Darkness Strange and Lovely by Susan Dennard, Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo, and the unnamed sequel to Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. (Maybe I should’ve just said, All of them. All the books. :))

I almost added SHADES OF EARTH, but since I haven’t yet read A MILLION SUNS, it would be a little disingenuous of me to be clamoring for book 3 when I haven’t read book 2. What if I don’t like A MILLION SUNS? I read the first chapter at the end of AtU, and I think it’s unlikely I won’t like it… but you never know! 🙂

Thanks for drawing attention to some other great releases to look forward to, Stephanie!

I’m looking forward to Unravel Me, Scarlet, Siege and Storm, Detergent (:P), and Isla and the Happily Ever After among others. Seriously, the list is ridiculously long because I’m right in the middle of countless series. #firstworldproblem I have a feeling that 2013 is going to be another awesome year for reading! 🙂

It’s interesting that all the books I’m looking forward to are part of a series. But I think that’s because I know the authors and the stories, so I have something to look forward to. There are probably some awesome debuts coming out this year, but I’ll wait for you all to review them first. 😀

Thanks for contributing to the list, Jaime!

UNRAVEL ME, SCARLET, and DETERGENT are all on my 2013 most anticipated list as well. I’m also eagerly waiting for DARK TRIUMPH by Robin LaFevers, SEIGE AND STORM by Leigh Bardugo, and I have my nose pressed against my front window waiting for the mailman to hurry up and deliver my copy of THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT by Veronica Rossi. Honestly, there are just too many books to list here. I think I need to start marking them all down on a calendar because I’ve lost track!

I think I have Leigh Bardugo’s SHADOW AND BONE on my winter reading list. Yes, I’m very late to the party on that one, but if it’s as good as everyone says, then SIEGE AND STORM will be on my hotly-anticipated list too. 🙂

And you’ve offered more for the list. Thanks, Erin!
