Twelfth Doctor Announcement on Sunday!
The BBC announced this evening (or midnight Friday morning in the UK) that they will be broadcasting a special live thirty minute show this Sunday (August 4th) that will introduce to the world the Twelfth Doctor. The show will comprise clips from throughout the show’s 50 year history, feature past Doctors, and also out-going Doctor Matt Smith along with showrunner Steven Moffat. Here’s the trailer for the show:
BUT WAIT!! THERE’S MORE!!
Viewers in the US will be able to watch the show LIVE, since the BBC will be simulcasting it to BBC America!!! So, in the UK, be watching BBC 1 at 7 pm. In the US, be watching BBC America at 2 pm Eastern Time (11 am Pacific Time).
Are you excited about this? Share your thoughts on the Twelfth Doctor, feelings about the Eleventh Doctor leaving, and anything else Who-related!
Super excited to find out who they pick! I wonder what the schedule means for those of us in Canada? Probably that we are SOL. Oh well, I’ll find out the day of either way.
I wondered about other places. It’s significant that the US fan-base is now so important that it is commercially worthwhile to avoid spoilers by simulcasting. However, what about fans in other parts of the world? The 50th Anniversary Special is being simulcast worldwide, so why not this (arguably) just-as-important event? However, as you say, you’ll be able to find out by checking any Doctor Who fan site after 7:30 pm GMT. I’ll probably announce it here, too.
I read about this in the newspaper this morning. I’m definitely going to be watching that! My friend and I were discussing the possibility of it being a female actor (hope not) or Daniel Radcliffe. We figured, they’ve been getting younger and younger, so he’s the only young actor we can think of! Harry Potter playing Doctor Who would be so confusing! Or, failing that, Rupert Grint so he can finally be ginger 🙂
Either Daniel or Rupert would be fun, but very unlikely–too well known. I’m not willing to venture a guess as to who it will be, but I think it’ll be someone relatively unknown to us in the US, and probably little-known to those in the UK. Not that they can’t pick someone well-known already (they’ve certainly done that before), but there are a lot of advantages with choosing someone up-and-coming. They are more likely to commit to 3+ years, it’s an attractive proposition because it’s high-profile and will be a boost to their career, etc.
We shall see. And just think, we’ll be watching on Sunday at the exact same time! How cool is that?! 😀
