Writer Recharge!
I don’t usually do the “New Year’s Resolutions” thing, mainly because most of my annual goals are life goals. However, that doesn’t mean I disparage goal-setting. Indeed, I try to set myself goals every day of things I’d like to accomplish before my head hits the pillow. Writer Recharge is a challenge, hosted by writer friends Sara Biren, Katy Upperman, Alison Miller, Liz Parker, and Elodie Nowodazkij, to enable writers to set goals for the month, and encourage them to achieve those goals. You can visit any of their blogs for more details, and to see who else has signed up. There are things I want to accomplish this month, so I thought I’d sign up for some accountability and encouragement.
Here are my goals for February, 2014:
- Get the WIP ready for Beta Readers: My First Readers have finished their work, and they are in the process of comparing notes. I’ll soon have their feedback, at which time I’ll need to make whatever changes they and I think are necessary to make this novel look as good as it can before it leaves the house.
- Finish at least one short story: I’ve already started on a short story, thanks to a YA Buccaneers Word Sprint. It would be great if I could finish this up, and have it edited and ready to send places by month’s end. And maybe even start on another…
These may seem rather modest goals, but aside from family, church, work, this blog, and other things going on, I have THE STAND to finish reading and CRESS and IGNITE ME are on their way to me! So this is a month with plenty of distractions. If I can accomplish those two things, I will be happy.
Do you have any grand plans for the month of February? If so, tell us about them! Join the linky list on one of the host blogs, and be sure to check Twitter (hashtag #WriterRecharge) for updates and encouragement. As per the challenge rules, I’ll be posting updates on the blog every Monday this month.
Hi Colin! So glad that you’re joining in. Those are solid goals – I like that you’re realistic about what you can accomplish with all your other life stuff. And this IS the shortest month of the year! Good luck!
Thanks, Sara! You’re right–February IS the shortest month. Eek! I’m glad I didn’t plan to write my next novel too…! π
So glad you’re joining us for #WriterRecharge, Colin! Best of luck with your goals — I’m rooting for you!
Thanks, Katy! π
Congrats on your goal setting and –writing a short story- very nice! Best of luck!
Thank you, Kim! I’ve wanted to work on short stories for a while, and now my novel is in the “reader” stage, this is the ideal opportunity.
Good luck with tidying up your WIP. Getting started on that right after reading reader notes is always the hardest for me. Hope #WriterRecharge helps you push right through!
Thanks, Tracey! So far, what my First Readers have told me is fairly positive, so I’m hopeful any changes won’t be too dramatic. We’ll see. π
