Onions

For the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge this year, I’m posting a 100 word piece of flash fiction every day. It might be a self-contained story, or a scene–whatever, it’ll be fiction, and it’ll be over in a flash! Today’s story is…

Onions

“Why?” said Andrea for the n-teenth time. I wanted to answer, but between her bouts of ugly-sobbing I didn’t stand a chance. Then, at last, after about half an hour, she stopped.

“Because he’s a guy,” I said.

“And all guys are stupid!” she replied.

“No. Guys are onions.”

Andrea rubbed her puffy eyes and stared at me.

“You think you know them,” I explained. “Then you peel a layer, and you find something new. Then you peel another layer… then another… You’ve got to peel the layers to really know a guy.”

“Yes–and I always end up crying!”

Check back tomorrow for P…

Guys are onions, girls are onions. We are all onions, some with more layers than others and can make each other cry. Interesting drabble today Colin.

Thanks, Cely. This one was for my YA romance-writer friends. I don’t write romance (as you can tell), but I thought it an interesting idea. 🙂

  2. I thought the protagonist was going to say something about men being stinky. 🙂

This is great, men are like onions because they make women cry, haha. It reminds me of Shrek, too; “Ogres are like onions!”

Haha! Nice 🙂 (Just read Novice too – talk about light and shade!)

Thank you, Cath. Yes… I’m really mixing things up this month. But that’s part of the fun of flash fiction–the freedom to dabble. 🙂

The last sentence made me chuckle. 🙂

Oh, I really like this one! I think it might be my favorite. Guy’s ARE like onions.

  8. That last line was a kicker. Loved it.
