For the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge this year, I’m posting a 100 word piece of flash fiction every day. It might be a self-contained story, or a scene–whatever, it’ll be fiction, and it’ll be over in a flash! Today’s story is…

If you need help deciphering this piece, check out this Text Messaging and Chat Abbreviation dictionary. I used it while writing it…
Check back tomorrow for U…
There were a few abbreviations I wasn’t familiar with, but that was great.

There were a number of abbreviations I learned when writing this! I’m glad you enjoyed it, Patricia. 🙂
Another great use of the prompt, very original. It makes me wonder what happened, though…what did Laura do to Jed?
Thanks, Laura. Hmmm.. therein lies the mystery. Another contender for a potential novel…? 🙂
Very cool, Colin. This must have been fun, but also kind of tricky to write. I had to look up a lot of the abbreviations because I’m one of those texters who has to spell out every word, use the proper grammar, and so on. I’m such a nerd. 😛
Thanks, Jaime! I knew some of these abbreviations, but I had to look most of them up, too. The advantage of using text abbreviations for flash fiction is you can get away with writing more “words” without actually writing more words. “2m2h” (“too much to handle”) would normally be four words, but here it’s only one. 🙂
There were a lot of abbreviations I didn’t know, because I basically live under a rock and get a little OCD about using proper grammar, even in texts (wait, OCD is an abbreviation…). I do confess to using lol though, because it communicates the tone of a comment. It was fun trying to figure out what the abbreviations in your flash fiction meant–sort of like doing a puzzle. Very creative!
Thanks, Erin! 🙂 The real irony here is that we have two cells phones in the family. My oldest has one, and the other stays in the car. Neither have texting capability, so this is a foreign language to me too!
