Unicorn

For the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge this year, I’m posting a 100 word piece of flash fiction every day. It might be a self-contained story, or a scene–whatever, it’ll be fiction, and it’ll be over in a flash! Today’s story is…

Unicorn

Death seeped through my veins. I could feel its progress as I staggered toward the barn. I collapsed on a bail of hay, the sickness clouding my thoughts.

A blurry figure approached me, holding a vial.

“Drink! Quick!” he said pouring the contents down my throat. It was thick, sticky, and powerful. The darkness retreated. My senses cleared.

“What…?”

“Unicorn blood,” said the man. “How far away are they?”

“About ten minutes,” I said. He walked out of sight. When he returned he handed me a club.

“Have you your strength?”

I nodded.

“Then we must be ready to fight.”

Check back tomorrow for V…

I am wondering who “they” are. Who are about ten minutes away? Who is the man that brought the unicorn blood? — And, who are you?– πŸ™‚

Ooh what’s going on there? You’re so good at making me want to know more!

Sorry, Laura–I only had 100 words! πŸ˜‰ The clue to what’s going on is in the title. How’s that for cryptic? πŸ˜€

I just finished reading Zombies vs Unicorns. Have you read it? Your story (for obvious reasons) totally reminded me of it. It’s worth checking out imo πŸ™‚

I haven’t, Rhonda, but I’m aware of it. Hmm… perhaps you’ve picked up on what this story’s about. πŸ™‚

I’m intrigued to read a zombie novel, just to see what it’s like, how it’s written, etc. Maybe that’s the one to read?

      • Rhonda Parrish says:

Um, it’s not a good choice if you’re looking for a zombie novel because it’s actually an anthology of short stories (half about zombies and half about unicorns). There are loads of fantastic zombie novels out there though.

  4. Unicorn blood automatically makes me think of Harry Potter. How could he drink it?!

    • cds says:

I did pause at that, but then I reminded myself that this is a different world, and unicorn blood has a very positive use here. πŸ™‚

  5. o.O You have me wondering what they have to fight.
