Heretic

Today is Day Eight of the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge. Click on the letter picture to the right for more information about this blog hop. Like last year, I’m writing 100-word flash fiction stories/poems/scenes for this year’s challenge. Today’s is:

Heretic

Ridged foreheads shadowing menacing, yellow eyes. Hands gripped in tight fists. Brad tried to back away, but he was surrounded on all sides.

β€œNo, please!”

He reeled with the first blow that caught his side. A sharp-toed boot stabbed his thigh. He stumbled, then collapsed under a barrage of unfettered kicking, pounding his legs, his chest, his arms. He tried to pull himself up, to get away, but was beaten down by bloodied knuckles and shoes.

When they eventually left, Brad could barely move. He spat red saliva and vowed never again to declare himself for Picard at another convention.

Come back tomorrow for I…

LOL, a Star Trek reference! Love these tidbits of short entertainment. I mentioned you in my blog, but the post ended up being a little longer winded than it should have been. Oh well.

LOL too funny! Are Star Trek fans really that brutal?

Thanks, Dena! Seriously, there are elements of many, if not all fandoms that are like this. In K-Pop there are fans known as Sasaengs who can get very aggressive and stalker-y. I think some have been known to attack members of the group they follow if they should do something they don’t like (e.g., get a girlfriend). I’m sure there are Trekkies out there who feel this passionately about the Kirk-Picard debate.

  4. Great job. Love how it was a Star Trek flash.

Apparently those conventions are pretty intense, huh? πŸ™‚

I have heard that fights can break out over things like this. But usually the majority of fans are cool. Maybe will engage in intense debate, but not to this extreme.

  6. Bwah, ha ha!

Wow, those conventions… Must never pick a side.
