Flash Fiction Friday
I hope you enjoyed the A-to-Z Challenge posts last month. You might think I’d take a break from writing flash fiction, but no! It’s Friday, so let’s see what the Random Word Generator has for us this week:
- worm
- desk
- knife
- kitten
- chip
An interesting collection of words. Since I’ve just written 26 100-word stories, I think I’ll keep to the 100-word limit:
Jeremy sat at his desk with a bag of potato chips, his eyes fixed on the others engaged in some activity. He didn’t know what. He didn’t care. All he knew was he wasn’t invited. Never was. Like the runt of the litter, the kitten no-one wanted.
He dipped his hand into the bag and took out a chip.
Crunch.
None turned a head.
He tried to look scary, but they didn’t fear him. They ignored him.
Soon they’ll notice Peter missing. And the knife from the Art Room.
Then they’ll understand how the worm can turn.
Then they’ll fear.
Have a great weekend!
Yay! Whew. I thought I’d have to go cold turkey. At least I’ll get a fix every Friday.
I’ve figured out what I like about your flashes. They are, to me, like mini synopses. I want to make a novel out of most of them.
Wow, thanks, Amanda. You never know, if I get up off my lazy B-hind and actually write more stuff, some of these may actually become novels… 🙂
I just thought I would mention that you are particularly insane. However, that said, how you can come up with so many 100-word stories and they’re GOOD, that boggles the mind.
Insane? Yes, so my children tell me. 🙂 And thank you! I’m glad you like them. My fear is that I’ll get so good at 100-word stories, I’ll forget how to write novels. As much as I enjoy flash fiction, I’d really prefer to end a month having written a good novel. But this is all great practice. And if people enjoy reading them, that makes it worthwhile.
Great that you didn’t let us – your addicted bunch — wait too long for more. Yippee! (Does anybody even say that anymore?)
Still, go write another novel, Colin. You are an imaginative and prolific writer, and you can channel it in any way you want.
We will wait for you. 🙂
Yippee! If they don’t say that any more, they ought to. 🙂 Thank you again for your lovely words of encouragement, Lilac. 😀
That was dark!
I can do dark. Actually, my wife thinks that’s what I do best! 🙂
