A to Z Writing Challenge 2018… Maybe?

Regulars to the blog over the years will know that I’m a five-time participant in the April A to Z Writing Challenge (yes, I call it “A to Zed,” and tomato doesn’t rhyme with potato). That’s the annual challenge where participants post a letter-related blog article every day of the month of April (except Sundays), starting with A and ending, as you might well surmise from the challenge title, with Z.

I did not participate last year, and some have noted that they missed my contributions (thanks, Mum!), and have asked if I will re-enter the fray this year. My answer is a definite… maybe. πŸ™‚

Here’s the thing. If I do the A to Z this year, I’ll want to write 100-word flash fiction again. This is a writing blog, and I’m trying to make something resembling a career as a fiction writer, so it feels only right and natural that I offer flash fiction for the challenge.

When it comes to writing flash fiction, I like to have a prompt. Two years ago, I wrote stories based on Paul McCartney song titles, which was fun. This year, I’m turning to YOU for writing prompts. I need 26 words, each starting with a different letter of the alphabet.

But here’s the catch. I’m only accepting suggestions from Patrons! If you would like to suggest words, then hop on over to my Patreon site, and look for my A to Z post there. If you can spare at least $1/month, you will have access to that post, and can suggest words in the comments.

Since there’s a good chance only a few people will do this (of course, I’m hoping for more), Patrons can suggest as many words as they want, and I’ll take the ones that inspire me the most. I’m also thinking about posting some special A to Z posts for Patrons, maybe talking about how I came up with some of the stories, or showing some “out-takes.” Enticing…?

So, yes, I’m shamelessly leveraging A to Z to get some interest in my Patreon. If you think my writing is worth supporting, and you can spare at least $1/month, please give some thought to becoming one of my Patrons. Thanks! πŸ™‚
