Above the Clouds
It’s DAY ONE of the 2018 A-to-Z Blogging Challenge! This year, I’m writing 100-word flash fiction every day (except Sundays, apart from today), again. This time, I’m using prompts suggested by YOU. Which gives me less than a day to write each entry!!
Today’s prompt comes from lissa, who suggested this on the “Theme Reveal” post a few weeks ago:
ABOVE THE CLOUDS
It looked like they were riding over a soft cotton blanket. If she could step out, she would meet its warm, comfortable embrace. Kelly smiled and leaned back in her seat. She was already leaving one embrace; one that had grown cold and intolerable. She hoped the next would be better.
The shuttle shuddered as it broke away from Earth’s gravity. The captain’s voice came over the speakers.
“We are about to engage hyperdrive. ETA to the Alpha Mars Colony approximately ten hours. Calibrated colony temperature, 70 degrees. Atmosphere and gravity normalized. Relax and enjoy the rest of your flight.”
I need a prompt for tomorrow’s story. Words or phrases beginning with B. I’ll pick the one that inspires me most. Thanks! 🙂
PS: There’s a BONUS STORY on my Patreon site… but you need to be a Patron to see it. 🙂
Happy Easter to you and the family. May you all be truly blessed as you celebrate the resurrection of our Lord. Lots of love. J x
Thanks, Jane! I hope you and the family had a wonderful time of celebration.
I didn’t except that end but I wasn’t really thinking as I read which that’s how I read, I suppose.
suggestions that came to mind today:
broken-hearted bear on the edge of being
breakfast for dinner
battles and beasts
have a lovely day.
Cool! I love springing an unexpected ending. 🙂 And thanks for the suggestions. Duly noted… 🙂
Well that’s certainly above the clouds!
B is for brave [because you’re certainly brave for not pre-writing your stories!]
Hmmm… maybe blundering bonehead for not pre-writing… but the month has just started. We’ll see. Right now, I’m glad people are making suggestions. Titles are half the battle for me. Thanks! 🙂
I agree with Dena – this is a very BRAVE challenge you’re doing! Here are a couple more ideas.
Brigadier (that’s a Doctor Who reference for you)
Ballistic missile
Beauty/Beast
Bitterness
Good luck on the A-Z journey!
Ooo… some good ones there, Celia. And love the Who reference! Thanks. 🙂
Buttered bread.
Nice one. Thanks, Liam! 🙂
“riding over a soft cotton blanket” – exactly how it looks =)
Isn’t it, though? 🙂
Colin,
This was lovely. I’m really looking forward to these. It certainly wasn’t the ending I expected.
I didn’t pre-write any posts either. Yikes, what was I thinking?
Thank you, Julie! And a *fist bump* for being a fellow insane person. 😀
You are both bonkers!
Love the story, also love that you’re more bonkers than I! Good luck.
