Eventide

It’s “E” day on the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge. This year, I’m writing 100-word flash fiction based on prompts given the day before by commenters. This is writing without a safety net. Writing on the edge. Writing without sleep and with lots of tears because you only have a few hours to come up with something worth reading. Thankfully, you’ve all given me some great ideas so far. Today’s story was prompted by AJ Blythe. Here it is!

EVENTIDE

T’was eventide, and the horizon was ablaze with orange and gold as day beckoned night, drawing it’s veil across a dark’ning sky.

I sat by the lake, musing on the turns of life, like a narrow path in a dense forest, shadowed by trees, with naught but instinct to guide.

Such instincts, as they are, did guide me to this lake, where I hoped to find peace and cleansing.

A shriek from the village signaled my time to move on.

I checked my hands to be sure they were no longer bloodied, and made my way toward the dense forest.

So… how about some F-words? Safe-For-Work F-words, I hasten to add!! Offer your prompt suggestions in the comments, and I’ll pick the one that inspires me. Thanks!

P.S.: If you’re also doing the A-to-Z Challenge, feel free to include a link to your blog with your comment so we can all find you easily.

Yeah, well… you should know me better than that by now, Dena. 😉

Falalala and Frosty the Snowman? Getting a bit Christmas-y, aren’t we? Nice suggestions, though.

what? I didn’t expect that ending. you really lure me in with the first sentences thinking something wonderful is coming and bang! perhaps I shouldn’t assume the worst but if this person had blood on his hands…

    suggestions:
    forget that you remember
    falling
    faithfully un-yours

    have a lovely day.

    my latest a-z post is:
excuses on why I didn’t blog

    • cds says:

Sorry, lissa, but, yeah, if there’s blood on the hands in one of my stories, you can be sure something nefarious is going on. Especially if there’s shrieking too!

Good prompts. Wow, you guys are making this hard!

You didn’t fool ME, Colin – I knew there had to be darkness coming in one of your stories. And there it was! Nicely done.

    A few F-words:
    Fried Food
    Foolish Friends
and then my brain scrambles these:
    Foolish Food
    Fried Friends
Brain, what are you doing? STOP!

Thanks, Celia. Yes… well… I almost went with a nice romantic encounter, but… I just couldn’t do it! Anyway, it seems I have a reputation to live up to. 😉

Fried Friends?? Apparently you’re determined to make sure I stay with that reputation! 🙂
